We are proud to acknowledge that Yass (Yaseen) Nijaat, one of our much loved painters, was awarded the NZGSM (Afghanistan) Primary Operational Area Medal from the New Zealand Government for service as an interpreter to the New Zealand Army during the Afghanistan war. The special ceremony was attended by our General Manager Scott Harrison, Project Manager Gareth Bissett, as well as friends and family of Yass.
“It was a great experience to witness Yass receiving such a prestigious and important medal for his service during the war in Afghanistan, and I speak for everyone at RPD when I say how proud we are of his dedication and achievements.”
Scott Harrison – General Manager RPD
About the New Zealand Operational Service Medal (NZGSM) primary operational area
The NZGSM (Afghanistan) was instituted in 2002 to recognise New Zealand personnel (both military and non military) who served in Afghanistan from December 2001. There are two qualifying geographical areas for the award. The ‘primary’ operational area is within the borders of Afghanistan itself, while the ‘secondary’ operational area includes areas of other countries in which forces were based to participate in the operation.
